Person X Bio last updated 7-2009.
Formed in the south side of Saint Louis City, Person X have spent the last 4 years establishing themselves in
the electronic, hip-hop underground. Their politically charged lyrics and electronic soundscapes have captured
the attention of bored audiences around town. This aggressive, blue-collar hip-hop group steers away from un-
realistic club anthems and frat house party songs. Rather, producers Proletarian and the Nature Boy create
hard hitting tracks with a collection of analogue synths, live instrumentation and a dash of classic sampling and
looping. Meanwhile Emcee, Ruin, narrates a fist pumping tale of corrupt government and corporate greediness
while trying to understand why hip-hop has turned a blind eye by churning terrible club hit after club hit. The
group has been compared to Public Enemy and influences include the Chemical Brothers and Frank Zappa. JB
Swift of Swift Reviews described, “Wreck the Flow is jam-packed with thoughtful lyrics and strong opinions on
the thoughts of the times. With well executed rhymes layered with electronic instrumentals, Person X has
created a roller coaster ride throughout the entire album – never with a dull moment. 4 out of 5 stars”.
Person X has recently released a new ep entitled Heal Thyself. The group has made this available as a free
download and is encouraging distribution of the record through “friend of friend” networks. It can be
downloaded at http://www.mothrasegg.com/Heal_Thyself.html. Currently, they are working on their 3rd full
length studido album. Furthermore, the group is featured in a standing summer series at The Venice Café.
Playing the last Thursday of every month, the group plays their own music along with backing up Tim ‘Type’
Jordan with his free-style poetry jams. The group encourages people to join them for the long haul, good or
bad, for the night. Guests have included John Huesler on the Didgeridoo and Rabia Heyak (LA) on the
Doombek. Person X is also bringing other groups up to play at the highly regarded show.
Founding members Proletarian and the Nature Boy met in 2005 with the hopes of forming a punk band. Soon
they discovered each others love of electronic drum machines, samplers, synths and other musical oddities.
Thus, the instrumental side of the group was formed. Soon after, Ruin joined the group and they began work on
their first release, Escape from the Third Free World. New ideas paved the path for their second release, Wreck
the Flow to be followed up by the Heal Thyself ep. In that time the group has completed remixes for folk singer
Mathew Bayot and STL metal favorites Final Drive, as well as, remakes of folk classics O Death, (Ghost) Riders
in the Sky and the Ventures surf rock classic, Journey to the Stars. The group plans on working closely with
other musical groups of all genres to help (or get help) in creating new and interesting music. Furthermore,
Proletarian is halfway through the design and build of his own modular, patch-bay synth and the Nature Boy
plans on circuit bending an old Casio SK-1 for the hell of it. However, job one is to play more shows, gain a
wider fan base and record more records. After all, as the Nature Boy states in the track ‘Just what you Need’ off
of Wreck the Flow, “Person X on a track is like sex for the vex. We didn’t choose to stand up, our raised fist is a
hex.”
Feel free to download the Heal Thyself ep and engage the group in conversation.
